9| De warmtebron

Het is een strenge winter;
bevroren is de plas.
En waar je kijkt, je vindt er
geen kind meer zonder das.

Het weer is omgeslagen;
de lucht is grauw en grijs.
Er staat na enk’le dagen
wat water op het ijs.

Dan komt de zon tevoorschijn.
Zij smelt met milde kracht
de sneeuwrest op het schoolplein,
de ijslaag in de gracht.

Bij mensen heerst vanbinnen
soms ook die winterkou.
Wat moeten zij beginnen?
Ach, alles lijkt zo grauw.

Laat dan de liefde schijnen,
want deze warmtebron
doet kilheid weer verdwijnen
als sneeuw voor de zon.

When it’s cold
It’s cold and chilly weather;
it’s frozen all around.
We hold on tight together,
’cause ice is on the ground.

But now a thaw has entered,
no skating on the pond.
All’s still in the town centre,
grey skies and rain beyond.

Out come first rays of sunshine,
they warm all with mild heat,
melt snow heaped on the road signs
and ice left on the street.

A person can feel wintry;
all warmth has gone away.
You so want to be happy,
but everything looks grey.

Then let the warmth of love shine,
its heat will work all year
to melt away the bad times
like snow just disappears.
